Why Suffer from Pain?
“It is amazing how much crisper the general experience of life becomes when your body is given a chance to develop a little strength.” Frank Duff
Many people experience neck or back pain at some point in their life and this pain may take many forms. It may be short-lived or long-lasting, mild or severe. Since your pain is unique, a pain management treatment plan must be tailored to address your individual needs. Trident Pain Center offers a variety of treatment options.
Injection Therapy
Nerve Blocks: There are several different types of nerve blocks that serve different purposes. Sometimes a group of nerves, called a plexus or ganglion, cause pain to a specific organ or body region. These nerves can be blocked with the injection of a medication into a specific area of the body. At Trident Pain Center we use fluoroscopy (a type of x-ray imaging) to allow us to confirm correct needle placement and produce rapid relief of your pain.
Different kinds of nerve blocks are used for different purposes. For example, epidural steroid injections are used to treat inflamed spinal nerve roots, and may greatly reduce radiating pain in the arms or legs. Facet joint (the joints which guide and restrict spinal movement) and sacroiliac injections are used to reduce pain and inflammation accompanying injury to or degenerative arthritic changes of the spine.
Trigger Point Injections: Pain resulting from muscle spasm can be relieved by injecting a local anesthetic into “trigger points” which have been identified by palpation of the neck and back.
Massage Therapy
Trident Pain Center offers a unique blend of massage therapy techniques (including deep tissue, neuromuscular and myofascial release) which enhance body function, helping to alleviate a broad range of pain and dysfunction. Our massage therapists are highly trained in medical massage and work with our providers to manage your pain, allowing you to further participate in muscle strengthening and conditioning programs to provide more long-lasting relief.[/tab]
Medication Management
Many medicines are used for pain management. Some drugs are general pain relievers, while others target specific types of pain. Most pain drugs require a prescription and careful monitoring to avoid the possibility of dependency or abuse. Our providers will make sure you are well informed regarding any medications you are prescribed, the appropriate way to take the medication, and any other medications or activities you should avoid while taking your prescription. It is important to be open and honest with your doctor about any medications you are currently taking, as well as any other health conditions you may have. If you have questions at any time, feel free to contact a provider or make an appointment to discuss your treatment options. [/tab]
Psychological Counseling
Chronic pain affects you not only physically, but emotionally, financially, and socially. Psychological counseling enables you to cope more effectively with pain and depression as well as help you with interpersonal relationships that may be adversely affected by chronic pain. Behavioral therapy can assist with returning you to optimal daily functioning; and may include stress management, behavioral adaptation, education, and relaxation techniques. Psychological counseling may also lessen the amount of medication needed to manage your pain, change your perceptions about levels of pain and disability, and even lift depression.
