When coming in to the Trident Pain Center, it’s important to know what to expect. Preparation for your pain treatment depends upon several factors, not least of which is the individualized treatment plan your team has created for you.
Pain Treatment
There are several types of pain management treatments offered at Trident Pain Treatment Center. Injections are commonly performed to address specific areas of pain. If you are taking a blood thinner or other medication, please speak with your physician before having any injections. If you are diabetic, be sure your blood sugar levels are below 200 before the procedure.
On the day of an injection, you may consume clear liquids for three hours prior to your exam. Appointments involving injections usually last between two and two and a half hours. You will need to be monitored for at least 20 minutes before discharge.
Every effort is made to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Your doctor will discuss the chances of discomfort before the process begins, so that you are well prepared for how the procedure will go. You must have a driver who can stay with you during your appointment. You will likely want to keep activity light for the remainder of the day after your injection. Depending upon the medication used, the injection site, and your individual body’s response to the procedure, the medication may take up to one week to begin working. If you experience discomfort after your procedure, use ice to reduce any swelling. Avoid using heat for at least 48 hours after your procedure.
